Over Budget

October 23rd, 2006 at 03:39 am

I am over budget again this month. I was doing pretty well until I went grocery shopping and bought luxury items. I love Belgium Chocolates LOL. I will have to be very careful this week to get back in balance.

I have been thinking about my "latte factor." I do have one. On morning when I am not telecommuting I stop and buy a coffee and some bananas. I usualy spend $2 or $3 dollars 3 to 4 times a week. I've thought about tryig to bring coffee from home and buying the bananas at a grocery store. However, the bananas would not be any cheaper and I really like the convenience of being able to stop and pick up a big cup of hot coffee. Also since I don't buy lunch at work this expense is really not that bad. I've decided that the expense is worth it. Maybe I should buy a big refillable cup. The place I stop gives customers a discount for getting refills rather than using strofoam cups. It would also be much better for the environment.

We all need our little luxuries. I'd get that refillable cup and enjoy. Maybe you could cut a little somewhere else to maintain your budget and keep your coffee.

And depending on the size of the cup you might get more for less.

I'm suprised given how cheap bananas are at a grocery store that you'd not be cheaper getting them from here - even here in the great white north banana's are cheap. Have you tried buying one at the grocery store to confirm the difference in price?

I guess where I am going is to suggest that you swap the convenience store banana cost for buying them at the grocery store but keeping the coffee habit if money is really tight or if you want to save a wee bit more.

I'm with you - I love my morning coffee. I get more pleasure than what it costs - 1.50$. but I do shop around for a cheaper cup. So I'd do the refill to shave the price. I like coffee - so drip coffee with a splash of milk does it for me, and its far cheaper than the latte. Check other convenience stores - you might find it a bit cheaper at another place. And if they have a punch card, use that also.

I like having my own travel mug, and saving 5-10 cents here and there is still a savings if you're going to buy the coffee anyway. Smile

sarah, i too am a coffee fiend! i don't know what your overall budget looks like, but mine includes a weekly allowance i can spend as i see fit, and that's where my coffee comes from.

i like the refillable cup idea, too. more bang for your cup!
