Buy Nothing New Challenge Begins

January 3rd, 2007 at 01:37 am

Today is day two of the buy nothing new challenge and so far so good.

I also went back to work today after a week off. The off time was nice but going back was tiring.

On another note December's numbers were bad. I was over budget again. This time by over a hundred dollars. I am not sure why. Oh I know what I spent the money on since I track everything but I am not certain why I am consistently overbudget.

One of the things I am curious about is whether or not the buy nothing new challenge will actually save me money. Before the challenge I already bought most things used so I am uncertain of the financial impact of the challenge. We'll see.

Is school back in session already? Or are you going back as in getting ready for the

Good luck with the challenge and hope it saves you some money. I thought about joining you but this doesn't seem to be the best time for me to tackle it.

I am teaching a three week interim class. The University strongly encourages each department to offer at least one. It will give me a little extra money although since pay rates keep changing I am unsure how much.

If you are consistently over budget, and you know where the overage is going, perhaps you need to revise your budget. Could it be that you've underbudgeted certain categories?

I've considered revising my food and household budget but I thought I'd wait a few weeks and see how the challenge effects it.

i was about post what disneysteve posted... that maybe you should reconsider your budget... still, it's a good idea to give it a few weeks... good luck with your challenge... i buy almost everything (except groceries, underclothes, etc) used as well so i understand that...
